The President of the African Development Bank, Dr Akinwunmi Adesina has been conferred with the 2023 Obafemi Awolowo Prize for Leadership.
Addressing a news briefing in Lagos, the Chairman of the Selection Committee for the Prize, Chief Emeka Anyaoku said the members were unanimous in their decision to confer Dr Adesina with the award.
He said the committee received many nominations before settling for Dr Adesina due to his exemplary leadership and service since he was Minister of Agriculture under President Goodluck Jonathan, which is similar to that of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo.
Speaking on leadership in the country, Chief Anyaoku said there had not been any leader like the late sage in terms of people-centred policies and integrity.
In a remark, an elder statesman, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, who was an associate of the late Chief Awolowo, said the followers had chosen to elect people without core principles of good governance.
The 2023 Obafemi Awolowo Prize for Leadership will be presented to Dr Akinwunmi Adesina on the 6th of March 2024 which is the anniversary of the birth of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo.
