The outgoing Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Moshood Jimoh, has formally handed over the leadership of the command to his successor, Fatai Tijani, following his promotion to Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2.
The transition marks a change in leadership at the Lagos State Police Command, one of the most strategic in the country, with Jimoh now overseeing operations across Lagos and Ogun states.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, Jimoh expressed confidence in the ability of the new commissioner to sustain and improve on existing security gains.
He noted that during his tenure, Lagos recorded a significant reduction in major crimes, including what he described as a near-zero level of kidnapping.
He said the achievements were the result of collective efforts by officers and men of the command, alongside strong collaboration with the Lagos State Government and other stakeholders.
According to him, “the successes recorded were not mine alone but a product of teamwork, dedication, and continuous engagement with all relevant partners.”
Jimoh also highlighted improvements in police welfare and logistics support, noting that the backing of the state government contributed to operational effectiveness.
He urged officers to extend the same cooperation to the new commissioner, stressing that continuity would be key to sustaining security stability.
“I have no doubt in his capacity to take the command to greater heights,” he added, while encouraging personnel to remain committed to professionalism and service.
In his acceptance remarks, the new Commissioner of Police, Fatai Tijani, commended his predecessor for laying a solid foundation and assured residents of his readiness to build on it.
He described Lagos as a complex security environment, noting that effective policing in the state requires intelligence-led strategies and strong community engagement. “The Lagos State Police Command remains resolute in its mandate to protect lives and property,” he said.
Tijani further pledged to strengthen collaboration with other security agencies and the public, while maintaining discipline and professionalism within the force.
He also declared zero tolerance for police misconduct, emphasizing that all operations would be guided by the rule of law and respect for human rights.
He called on residents to support the police with credible information, assuring that the command would remain responsive and accountable in addressing security challenges across the state.
