AIMAN to revamp constitution, focuses on member licensing and safety

The Aeronautical Information Management (AIMAN) in the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has formed a committee to review its constitution.

The committee’s task is to examine and amend the constitution to better reflect the wishes and aspirations of AIMAN’s members and to help achieve the organization’s objectives.

AIMAN President Dr. Ibrahim Audu, speaking with journalists in Lagos, emphasized the importance of securing licenses for AIMAN members during his tenure.

He highlighted that the lack of licensing has been a major concern, as licensing is crucial for maintaining public confidence in the services provided.

“Every professional field requires licensing to ensure confidence in the execution of responsibilities,” Dr. Audu stated. “Our products, such as the Aeronautical Information Publication (AIP) and Notices to Airmen (NOTAM), are essential for safe flights. Licensing would assure the public that qualified professionals are at the helm.”

He acknowledged that previous leaders had made efforts to address the licensing issue but had not yet succeeded.

Regarding the automation of Aeronautical Information Services (AIS), Dr. Audu pointed out that despite the initiative starting in 2003, there has been little progress.

He expressed concern about the unknown reasons behind the delay.

Dr. Audu assured that the new executives would investigate the current status and necessary actions to expedite the automation process.

“We will support all efforts to facilitate AIS automation. We will work closely with management to ensure this crucial safety measure is implemented. Safety is our priority now and always, and we are committed to resolving this issue to achieve AIS automation,” he affirmed.
