Airport Insurance Debate: FAAN Confirms Policies Up to Date Across Federal Facilities

The Managing Director and Chief Executive of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, has assured that all federal airports under the agency’s management are fully insured, with policies up to date.

Responding to recent calls for mandatory insurance of Nigerian airports, Mrs. Kuku emphasized that FAAN has consistently maintained high standards in areas such as derubberization and runway hygiene, with records to verify these efforts.

She acknowledged that challenges persist with habitation and community activities around airports, which have contributed to incidents of wildlife and bird strikes.

According to her, FAAN is working closely with relevant stakeholders to address these concerns and strengthen safety.

The MD FAAN further noted that some runways with structural and engineering challenges, as well as those that have exceeded their lifespan, are currently undergoing phased overhauls and maintenance to ensure continued safety and efficiency.
