Asaba Private Jet Incident: NSIB Retrieves Cockpit Voice, Flight Data Recorders

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has recovered the Cockpit Voice Recorder and Flight Data Recorder from the Bombardier Challenger CL-601 private jet involved in Wednesday’s aviation incident near Asaba, Delta State, marking a major step in the ongoing investigation.

The aircraft, operated by VMO Aero Limited, was flying from Lagos to Asaba when it reportedly landed on a roadway before departing the area.

In response, the NSIB immediately deployed an investigative team to the scene and launched a full-scale probe into the occurrence.

According to the Bureau, the recovered flight recorders have been secured for detailed analysis, while investigators are also examining maintenance, operational and air traffic control records to establish the sequence of events.

NSIB Director General, Captain Alex Badeh Jr., said the swift recovery of the black boxes will be crucial in determining the facts surrounding the incident.

He expressed relief that no fatalities or serious injuries were reported, reaffirming the agency’s commitment to improving aviation safety.

The Bureau says the investigation will focus on identifying the factors that led to the occurrence and issuing safety recommendations to prevent a recurrence, stressing that the exercise is aimed at enhancing transportation safety rather than assigning blame.
