US Aircraft manufacturer, Boeing has launched an advanced technical training programme in Lagos for Nigerian airline engineers, reinforcing efforts to enhance aviation safety, operational efficiency and workforce development in the country.

The programme is part of a technical collaboration agreement signed in 2024 between Boeing and the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s aviation sector through capacity building and knowledge transfer.

The initiative, which runs from June 16 to July 29, will train 16 engineers drawn from United Nigeria Airlines and ValueJet.

Participants will undergo intensive instruction on the Boeing 737 Next-Generation aircraft, covering avionics, airframe, powerplant and electrical systems, as well as maintenance procedures critical to safe and reliable airline operations.

Successful trainees will earn European Union Aviation Safety Agency, EASA, theoretical training certificates.

Speaking on the initiative, Boeing’s Managing Director for Africa, Anbessie Yitbarek, said investing in technical expertise and safety leadership remains vital to the sustainable growth of Africa’s aviation industry, noting that Nigeria remains one of the continent’s most strategic aviation markets.

He added that the company is committed to helping develop a new generation of highly skilled local engineers to support safer and more reliable airline operations across the region.
