Bosso Drops Eight Flying Eagles, Names World Cup Squad

Nigeria could present a hugely reworked Flying Eagles squad to the FIFA Under 20 World Cup in Argentina.

Coach Ladan Bosso who unveiled his 21man squad yesterday, dropped 8 players from the team that won bronze medal at the last CAF U20 AFCON in Morocco.

Following criticisms that trailed the team’s seemingly lackluster outing in Morocco, coach Bosso swung into action by shaking up the midfield and defensive departments of the squad ahead of the junior world cup.

Midfielders Nathaniel Jonathan, Mohammed Aminu, Emma Uchegbu and Caleb Ochedikwu all made way for new bloods while strikers Ahmed Abdulahi, Ibrahim Mohammed, Ayuba Abubakar and Olamilekan Adams were dropped for fresh callups.

The newly selected midfielders are Victor Eletu, Ibrahim Abdulahi, John Joshua and Tochukwu Nnadi while Jude Sunday, Lawal Fago, Kehinde Ibrahim and Emmanuel Umeh are the new faces in attack.

The defensive and the attacking departments of the team remain unchanged from the Moroccan tournament.

The Eagles who just landed in Argentina will be needing tune-up games in order to gel into a cohesive unit following the changes made by Bosso.

To this end the Nigeria Football Federation has arranged two friendly games for the Ladan Bosso tutored boys – one with a local Argentinian club this week before playing Colombia next Tuesday 16 May 2023.

Nigeria will face Dominican Republic, Italy and Brazil in the group phase of the World Cup scheduled for May 20 until 11 June, this year.
