..…Residents Urged To Sustain Hygiene
The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has attributed the relative environmental cleanliness observed across Lagos metropolis during the just-concluded Easter celebration to the extensive resources deployed for prompt waste evacuation in high-traffic areas.
In a statement, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of LAWMA, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, explained that the Authority strategically positioned personnel and equipment at critical locations such as markets, motor parks, and busy commercial hubs to ensure efficient waste collection throughout the festive period.
Dr. Gbadegesin noted that LAWMA intensified its operational activities ahead of the Easter celebrations, including sensitizing residents on proper waste disposal practices to sustain environmental cleanliness and prevent flooding.
He added that the Authority strengthened waste evacuation arrangements across the metropolis, with enhanced monitoring and operational support to guarantee timely service delivery during the festivities.
According to him, festive periods typically generate increased waste, making it essential for both service providers and residents to play active roles in maintaining a clean environment.
He further disclosed that LAWMA collaborated closely with licensed Private Sector Participant (PSP) operators to sustain regular domestic waste evacuation and promptly address service gaps where necessary.
Dr. Gbadegesin urged residents to adopt simple waste reduction habits such as avoiding unnecessary purchases, reusing materials where possible, and separating recyclable items from general waste.
He also cautioned against indiscriminate dumping of refuse in drainage channels, road medians, and open spaces, warning that such practices could obstruct the free flow of stormwater as the rainy season approaches.
Emphasizing that environmental cleanliness is a shared responsibility, he called for stronger cooperation among government, service providers, and residents.
Dr. Gbadegesin reassured Lagosians of LAWMA’s continued commitment to improving service delivery through enhanced operational efficiency, infrastructure upgrades, and sustained public enlightenment.
He encouraged residents to report waste management issues through LAWMA’s customer care line, 07080601020, and its social media platforms for prompt response.
