Collapsed Building; Lagos Commissioner Resigns.

The Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has accepted the resignation of the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Idris Salako.

This is a prelude to the restructuring of the Ministry and its agencies.

A statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Gbenga Omotoso says
Governor Sanwo-Olu thanks the Commissioner for his services to the State and wishes him success in his future endeavours.

According to the statement, the Governor warns all players in the sector to respect the law or face the consequences of any indiscretion, no matter who the perpetrators are.

Recently, issues of collapsed buildings in the State have been generating controversies.

On Sunday, a seven storey building under construction in Oniru area of the State collapsed.

So far, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, has extricated six bodies from the rubble.

Meanwhile, the Oniru Chieftaincy Family Estate Office has expressed utmost regret and deepest sympathy to the families of the yet to be identified victims of the collapsed building on Oba Idowu Abiodun Oniru Road, Oniru Estate, Victoria Island, Lagos.

A statement signed by the Head, Oniru Chieftaincy Family Estate Office, Prince Olarenwaju Ajasa (FCIB), commends the prompt and diligent emergency rescue services provided by emergency first responders and notes in particular and appreciate the concerted efforts of Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, the Nigeria Police, Lagos State Fire Service, Lagos State Emergency Ambulance Services, National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, Nigerian Red Cross and on-site paramedics.

It says that with a mutual view to eliminating a recurrence of collapsed buildings in Lagos State, Oniru Chieftaincy Family Estate Office will continue to partner with Lagos State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development and all the relevant statutory agencies, saddled with the onerous duties of physical planning and regulation of building/property development in Lagos State and prayed to God to grant repose to the souls of the deceased, and succour to their families.
