CSMC Surulere District Choir Vows to Preserve Legacies of Evergreen Songs

Church Elders

The Cherubim and Seraphim Movement Church, Surulere District Headquarters Ayo Ni O, has said it would continue to preserve the legacies of the church and keep to the standard of its choir’s evergreen songs.

The District Chairman and General Leader, Senior Special Apostle Prophet (Dr) Sunday Korode, while briefing newsmen on the 50th anniversary of the church choir tagged, “In His Presence” said the church would not stop spreading the gospel of Christ through its musical talents.

He said the church would also keep using modern technology and platforms to promote its musical works without compromising its vision.

He said, “Our focus shall be to continue to propagate the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ through the God given musical talents, the lyrics, and messages of our songs, to minister to many more souls, making our impact more global, working with other gospel ministers inside and outside the country, using modern technology and platforms to promote the work while been conscious of our C & S base and origin till we populate His kingdom.”

Prophet Korode who was represented by the Deputy General Secretary, Special Apostle Benjamin Alaka, further said that the church choir, otherwise known as Seraph Voices, had ranked from humble beginnings to become an icon in the gospel music industry in Nigeria.

He added that most of the lyrics in the choir albums had become household songs and popular lyrics in churches and amongst popular gospel ministers.

He said, “The Choir has well over 40 record albums to her credit popular among which is “Lehin Jesu Ko S’enikan” which today we have seen several versions of it being sang as worship, as acapella and so on, another of such is “Take Control” which remains ever green at every time our country is faced with different challenges.

“There are other powerful songs such as Oke Mimo, Almighty God and many more like that, all inspired by the Holy Spirit. Our Music, melody and Message has become a social responsibility to the nation at large.

“The achievements of the Last 50 years are attributed to the presence of God with us, and our resolution is to also remain in His presence even as we carry out our spiritual mandate and develop ourselves physically.”

The Church Secretary, Prophet Oluseyi Coker, said although there is a trend of some gospel music modeling after secular music, the church would not change its standard.

“Our church is very unique and phenomenal and you will find out that as one generation is moving, it is passing the baton to the next generation seamlessly. Though, some things might have been modified to meet the present day situation but they are still spiritual.

“Most of the Nigerian gospel music is not as strong as one would have expected. They are often modeled towards circular music. But ours will continue to move with the same standard, same legacy and the same principles upon which our albums and music were written and produced,” he added.

The church choir master, Special Apostle Gbemi Ladejobi, disclosed that the church would launch a platform to archive its musical projects.

He said, “Part of what we are doing now is to have our pen drive where we store all our past products and albums. We will launch it on our choir day. With that those who were not around when the albums were produced will have the opportunity to listen and digest the content of the album. In music, we have a school which is RSM certified. It has trained members and non-members. So we are doing all our best to make sure that the generations yet to come know what we are doing.”

The Choir Master-General, Prophet Niyi Adeyemi said the church would do more to build people’s faith through the music.

He said, “We have a lot of songs out there and we are still praying that we will be able to do more to preach the gospel through our music. The wordings of the music give us hope and when your hope is restored, faith will be built and from there you forge ahead.”

On his part, Pastor Sam Akande, said the church had always talked about how righteousness exalts a nation.

He said, “We have never deviated from the true gospel and if you look at most of our albums, we are always very cautious about the music and the message and also make sure that it is tailored towards propagating the good news. We try as much as we can in most of our records to make sure that we are really touching the hearts of people, turning lives around and making a kind of message that would embrace righteousness.”

The anniversary, which started with the launch of a logo in October 2022, will climax with a thanksgiving on Sunday, April 23. The choir day will be held on Saturday, April 15, on the church premises.
