D’Tigress qualify for semi’s of Afrobasket Women 2021

By Annabel Okweri

Nigeria’s senior women basketball team, D’Tigress continued their quest for a third AfroBasket title with an impressive 72- 56 win against Cote d’Ivoire in the ongoing championship in Yaounde, Cameroon.

D’Tigress delivered the knockout punch quite early leading by 16 points at the end of the 1st quarter(24-8).
They went on to take the second quarter, 19-13 and the third 16-14.

D’Tigress had a healthy 24 point lead going into the 4th quarter, but some dodgy calls from the referee almost let the Ivorians come back in the match, reducing the deficit to just 13pts with over four minutes left to play.

However, the much experienced Nigerian team devised a comeback, finding the bucket with back to back outside shots from Promise Amukamara and Ezinne Kalu, which further stretched their lead and took the sting off Cote d’Ivoire.

The victory takes Nigeria’s win tally to 19 games in a row as the D’Tigress await their semi final opponent.
