Engineering Students Charged To Seek Modern Knowledge In Their Field

Students studying engineering courses in higher institutions of learning in the country have been asked to key into the new knowledge in the world of engineering practice in order to be relevant in their field of study. 

The Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat gave the advice at the Induction Ceremony into Graduate Membership of the Nigerian Society of Engineers for the 2021/2022 graduating set of the University of Ibadan.

He said that it would be difficult for graduates of engineering in the country to make excellent impact in their fields of expertise  if they did not seek relevant knowledge in the modern ways of practicing engineering profession as provided by the world of technology. 

The Deputy Governor stressed that the future belonged to those that were willing and ready to adapt to technological development as a way of life.

Dr. Hamzat however, urged young engineers to contribute their quota to the development of the nation by coming up with ideas and concepts that would further enhance life experience in the society. 

He charged the young engineers to be solution providers and not armchair engineers. 

The Deputy Governor explained that the education they had acquired was to provide a foundation for them intellectually.

According to him, they were expected to put the theoretical training they had acquired to designing great engineering feats.

He urged them to turn the challenges confronting the nation to their opportunities by providing solutions to them.

These include, Climate Change,  Agricultural Production, Housing challenges, infrastructural development and maintenance.

In a message to the event, the Vice Chancellor, University of Ibadan,  Prof. Kayode Adebowale called on the graduating engineering students to be of good character wherever they found themselves and put the training they had acquired in the university to good use in the larger society.

He stressed that the nation required their expertise for the development of the country. 

A total of Two hundred and Thirty-one graduating students were inducted into Graduate Membership of the Nigerian Society of Engineers at the event.
