The arrival of Enugu Air, a new airline, at Akanu Ibiam International Airport (AIIA) in Enugu, has been hailed as a major boost for the regional economy.
The airline’s presence is expected to significantly increase passenger traffic, generate more revenue for both the federal and state governments, and create job opportunities within the aviation sector.
According to Mr. Hilary Umunna, Regional Manager, South East Airports and Manager of AIIA, the airline’s arrival is a major milestone for the airport and the region. “We anticipate positive economic ripple effects for Enugu State and the Southeast region, fostering trade, tourism, and business growth,” he said.
Mr. Umunna, who has experience in developing aviation infrastructure, revealed that AIIA has taken several steps to ensure that the airline meets international operational and regulatory requirements.
These include infrastructure enhancements, improved ground handling services, security reinforcements, and compliance with international safety and operational standards.
The airport manager also emphasized the importance of coordination between stakeholders to facilitate smooth operations for the airline.
“We have streamlined coordination between all stakeholders to ensure a seamless and efficient operation for the airline and its passengers”.
The arrival of Enugu Air is seen as a major step towards making Enugu a strategic aviation hub. The airline’s presence is expected to enhance connectivity, boost economic activities, and align with the airport’s vision of becoming the preferred aviation hub for the south east.
The airport manager, expressed his excitement at welcoming Enugu Air to Akanu Ibiam International Airport, saying, “I am honored and excited to welcome Enugu Air to AIIA.
