The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority has formally handed over the Aerodrome Certificate for the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu to the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, in a move seen as a major boost for aviation safety and standards in the country.

The presentation took place at the Authority’s headquarters in Abuja, where the Director General of Civil Aviation, Captain Chris Najomo, described the certification as a key milestone for the sector.

Represented at the event by the Director, Aerodromes and Airspace Standards, Mr. Ahmad Abba, he noted that the achievement stresses Nigeria’s commitment to strict regulatory compliance and global best practices, particularly in line with International Civil Aviation Organization requirements ahead of upcoming international safety assessments.

Captain Najomo also commended FAAN for its dedication throughout the rigorous five-stage certification process, highlighting the level of collaboration that made the achievement possible.

Responding, FAAN’s Managing Director, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, praised the efforts of both technical teams and stakeholders.

Mrs Kuku represented by the Director, Commercial and Business Development, Ms. Joy Agunbiade, assured that the agency will maintain the standards attained and continue to strengthen operations across the nation’s airports.
