The Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu, Enugu State, is scheduled to reopen for flight operations on Monday, April 28, 2025, following the successful completion of emergency repairs on its runway.
The airport was forced to shut down temporarily on April 22, 2025, after a significant rupture was discovered on the asphalt surface at a critical section of the runway.
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) swiftly responded to ensure safety by initiating emergency repairs.
According to FAAN’s Director, Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mrs Obiageli Orah in a statement, the rehabilitation works have been completed, and the runway has been cleared for landings and takeoffs.
The authority expressed gratitude to airport users and stakeholders for their understanding and cooperation during the temporary closure.
She also apologized for the inconvenience caused, assuring the public that all actions taken were in the interest of safety.
With the repairs completed ahead of the initially planned reopening date of May 6, 2025, the airport is set to resume flight operations.
