Experts at the Transportation Correspondents Association of Nigeria (TCAN) 2025 Summit have called for greater innovation and sustainability to unlock growth in Nigeria’s transportation and logistics sector.
Speaking on the summit theme, “Driving the Transport Logistics Value Chains for Economic Growth,” the Programme Director of the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas (Pi-CNG), Mr. Michael Oluwagbemi, said efficient, affordable, and future-ready systems are essential to economic transformation.
Represented by Mrs. Ugonna Onyemelukwe, he explained that the Pi-CNG initiative was designed to accelerate Nigeria’s transition from petrol and diesel to cleaner, cheaper compressed natural gas.
“CNG will cut costs, reduce the environmental footprint of logistics operations, and enhance Nigeria’s energy security,” he said, noting that the programme has already begun rolling out conversion centres, fueling stations, and training schemes nationwide.
Oluwagbemi added that CNG adoption would revolutionise cargo movement and intermodal hubs.
“Imagine fleets of cargo trucks powered by CNG moving goods from ports to inland cities—cutting costs, reducing emissions, and improving competitiveness.
This is not a distant dream; it is the future we are building together,” he said.
He urged stakeholders to collaborate in reshaping Nigeria’s transport sector into a model of efficiency, resilience, and sustainability.
Also speaking, Mr. Segun Obayendo, Managing Director of the Lagos Computerised Vehicle Inspection Service (LACVIS), said the summit theme reflected the need for technology-driven, safe, and sustainable practices across the industry.
Represented by Mrs. Abike Awojobi, Obayendo stressed LACVIS’s commitment to safer roads through reliable vehicle inspections.
“We remain dedicated to working with industry players, regulators, and policymakers to strengthen the transport ecosystem and make it a true driver of national prosperity,” he said.
The summit brought together government officials, private sector leaders, and industry experts to explore pathways for building an integrated transport and logistics system that supports Nigeria’s economic growth.
