The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) says passenger train operations on the Abuja–Kaduna corridor will resume next week following extensive repairs and safety checks on the affected track section.
The service was suspended after a train derailed on August 26, 2025.NRC’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Callistus Unyimadu, confirmed the resumption plan but did not provide an exact date.
He said the Corporation had worked “tirelessly” to restore both infrastructure and rolling stock to the highest safety standards in line with global best practices.
As part of passenger welfare measures, Unyimadu disclosed that refunds had been issued to 512 of the 583 passengers onboard the derailed train, with efforts ongoing to process the remaining cases.
“We appreciate the patience and understanding of our esteemed passengers.
Their safety, comfort, and satisfaction remain our top priority,” he said.
The NRC also acknowledged the support of the Federal Ministry of Transportation, security agencies, the media, and stakeholders during the recovery period.
Further details on the official resumption date and schedule are expected in the coming days.
