Fashola Advises LASU To Come Up With Innovations And  Impactful Researches

Nigerian Universities, especially the Lagos State University have been urged to come up with research and Innovarions capable of solving the socio-economic problems confronting the nation.

The immediate past Minister of Works and Housing, Mr.Babatunde Fashola made the plea at the 5th Research and Innovation Fair of the Lagos State University,  held at the University main campus, Ojo Lagos.

Mr. Fashola who was the keynote speaker at the event said that considering the important roles Reseaserch and Innovations played in the growth and development of any society it should not be taken with levity.

Making reference to the different ways by which research and  innovations had impacted human lives positively, Mr. Fashola who was also a former Governor of Lagos State said that more still needed to be done in the area of research and innovations in Nigeria so as to bring the nation to the right pedestrial in the comity of nations  particularly, in the area of technological advancement and wealth creation. 

He explained that no doubt, Research and Innovations had been  the brain behind various technological advancements observed in different areas of human endeavours which include Medicine, transportation, Banking, Trade and investments and  telecommunications , which had imparted the society positively,

Mr. Fashola however, called on the Lagos State University in particular,  to work closely with Research Institutes to come up with formidable and impactful research and innovations that would bring about development in the country.

The Vice- Chancellor, Lagos State University, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello called  on industries to collaborate with the university especially in the area of funding so as to proffer solutions to some challenges confronting the nation through research findings and innovations.

Prof. Olatunji-Bello stressed that with supports from industries, the University would have a formidable collaboration that would further assist the institution to carry out impactful research works and come up with  innovations that would bring about growth and development in the society.

In an opening address, the Director, Research Management and innovation, Lagos State University, Prof. Adejuwon Adeneye said that the Research Fair would not only showcase researches and innovations   carried out by researchers in the Lagos State University but from other tertiary institutions across the country. 

The Lagos State University Research and Innovation Fair is a platform provided by the University Management to competitively showcase researches and innovations emanating from the University and other tertiary institutions with the aim of meeting  societal needs and solving its challenges.
