The federal government is set to carry out comprehensive repairs of three defective sections of the Iddo Bridge in Lagos for six months.
Iddo bridge is the five hundred and thirty – four major link of Carter bridge with Ijora area of the state.
This will be preceded by the installation of a barrier to restrict heavy duty vehicles on Sunday 3rd February, so as to enable the repairs of the bridge without closure.
Federal Controller of Works, Mrs Olukorede Kesha told newsmen that the Minister of Works, Mr David Umahi ordered the installation of the barriers as a first measure to salvage the fifty- two years old bridge on which only palliatives have been done since its construction.
Mrs Kesha explained that the defects were discovered on the fifty – two years old bridge after structural integrity tests conducted in fulfilment of the mandate of the President Bola Tinubu administration to preserve critical road infrastructure across the country.
She stated that the scope of work will extend to the under deck of the bridge to increase the height for easy passage of heavy duty vehicles and adjoining roads.
Mrs Kesha assured of the cooperation of the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation to ensure free flow of traffic for the period of repairs of Iddo Bridge.
Bridges undergoing comprehensive repairs by the present administration include Third Mainland Bridge, Carter bridge, Marine Beach bridge and Apogbon bridge.
