NYCN, Itire-Ikate bemoans Hike in Electricity Tariff

Some residents of Itire-Ikate Local council and environs have again protested what they described as ” Illegal Reclassification of Electricity Tariff Bands” by Eko Electricity Distribution Company.

Speaking on behalf of the residents from Ijeshatedo, Coker, and Aguda, the Coordinator, National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN, Itire-Ikate Branch, Comrade Ayodele Oshodi, expressed displeasure with sudden and unjustified classification of electricity tariff bands, where residents were moved from Band B to Band A without notification.

This according to the NYCN Coordinator has resulted in significant increase in electricity bills, placing undue financial burden on residents.

Comrade Oshodi said”An important thing to note is that this reclassification is not only illegal but also exploitative” .

He noted that despite previous protests on the issue, EKEDC has failed to address their grievances.

Other residents say they were already struggling with the rising cost of living, stating that the abrupt change in tariff has only worsen matters.

They are calling on stakeholders, including the Federal House of Representatives to intervene,
by mandating EKEDC to return the affected communities to Band B status, as well as ensure the company complies with the laws governing electricity tariffs and customer service.
