The Federal Government has announced that the inclusivity of women, youths, and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) will form the foundation of its new National Gender Policy on Agriculture and Strategic Plan of Action 2025–2030.
Speaking at the South-East Zonal Consultative Forum in Enugu, Mrs. Kachallah Damaturu, Director of Special Duties at the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, said the forum was created to give women, youths, and PWDs a voice in shaping the policy, ensuring their needs are reflected in the national plan for agriculture.
Damaturu noted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has consistently emphasized women’s empowerment in agriculture, particularly in areas of training, access to land, and financial services.
Also, Action Aid’s Food and Agriculture Advisor, Ms. Blessing Akhile, explained that the review process will enhance equity, productivity, and resilience across Nigeria’s agricultural system.
