The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the local government election held today in Rivers State.
Wike commended residents for turning out in large numbers to cast their votes, describing the exercise as a sign of their commitment to grassroots democracy.
Speaking to journalists after voting at Polling Unit 007, Ward 9, Rumuepirikom Kingdom, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, the minister said Rivers people were happy to participate in the election.
He further explained that the polls would guarantee local governments direct access to funds from the Federation Account, in line with the recent Supreme Court ruling.
According to him, the successful conduct of the election will strengthen democratic governance and promote stability at the grassroots level.
