FICAN Elects First Female Chairman as Radio Nigeria’s Ebere Obike Joins Executive

The Finance Correspondents Association of Nigeria (FICAN) has elected its first female chairman in the association’s 36-year history, marking a significant milestone for financial journalism in the country.

Bukola Aro-Lambo of Leadership Newspapers emerged as chairman during the association’s election held in Lagos, becoming the first woman to lead the body since its establishment in 1989.

The election also saw Radio Nigeria’s Business Correspondent, Ebere Obike, elected as Assistant General Secretary of the association.

Members described the development as a defining moment for FICAN, which comprises journalists covering Nigeria’s financial services sector, including banking, insurance, pensions, capital markets and the broader economy.

Also elected into the new executive committee were Tony Chukwuyem of New Telegraph as Vice Chairman and Abiola Ismail of MITV as General Secretary.

The newly elected officials are expected to strengthen professionalism, ethical reporting and capacity development within Nigeria’s financial journalism space.

FICAN remains one of the leading professional bodies for journalists reporting on finance, business and economic issues in Nigeria.
