FIFA Hosts 2-Day Club Management Workshop for Nigerian Leagues in Abuja

Officials from FIFA have arrived in Nigeria for a two-day club management workshop aimed at enhancing the governance and commercial operations of Nigerian football clubs.

The workshop, scheduled for Tuesday, June 3, and Wednesday, June 4, 2025, is taking place at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja.

It is tailored for chairmen and chief operating officers of clubs in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) and other domestic leagues.

According to organizers, the training will examine the current management models of Nigerian football clubs and provide fresh insights to improve governance, financial sustainability, and global competitiveness.

Leading the Nigerian delegation is the President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau.

He is joined by NFF 2nd Vice President Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye and General Secretary Dr. Mohammed Sanusi.

FIFA’s delegation is led by El Hadji Diop, Head of FIFA’s Regional Office for West and Central Africa.

The team includes experienced football professionals such as Rasoamahenina Sanda Manonisoa, Marcos Piccalo, Federico Perez, Javier Sobrino, and Laurent Colette.

Colette is a former managing director of Olympique de Marseille, while Sobrino previously served as Chief Strategy and Innovation Officer at FC Barcelona.

As part of the workshop requirements, each NPFL club is expected to submit a document outlining a clear strategy for achieving financial autonomy and leveraging their unique histories and assets to build globally recognized brands.

The sessions will cover topics such as strategic planning, finance, marketing, and governance.

Participants include chairmen and CEOs from the NPFL, Nigeria National League (NNL), Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL), and Nigeria Nationwide League One (NLO).
