The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has expressed concern over the refusal of many commercial vehicle operators to install speed limiting devices, despite the policy being in force since 2016.
FRSC spokesperson, Mr. Olusegun Ogungbemide, told newsmen that the devices were introduced to reduce excessive speeding, which remains the leading cause of fatal road crashes in Nigeria.
He explained that several operators continue to resist compliance, citing high costs, inadequate technical support, and claims that the devices affect vehicle performance.
Ogungbemide disclosed that, so far, only about 187,000 commercial vehicles have installed the devices, leaving a large number of others unchecked.
He reiterated that the Corps will sustain sensitisation and enforcement to ensure widespread compliance and enhance road safety across the country.
