Notable Nigerian Fuji musician, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate, is at the centre of a brewing controversy after allegedly flouting aviation security regulations at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on Tuesday, August 5, 2025.
The Director, Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mrs. Obiageli Orah in a statement addressing the incident, revealed that the veteran musician was involved in a confrontation with aviation and airline officials while attempting to board a ValueJet flight (VK 201) to Lagos.
According to FAAN, the altercation began when K1 De Ultimate insisted on carrying an unidentified liquid substance later discovered to be alcohol through security screening.
This FAAN says, is contrary to established international and national aviation regulations.
Despite being informed of the restrictions on liquids exceeding 100ml under Nigeria’s National Civil Aviation Security Programme and ICAO Annex 17, the musician reportedly refused to comply.
The situation escalated when the artist allegedly spilled the liquid on an airline security officer who had requested he step aside for further clarification.
The Flight Captain also intervened but was met with resistance.
Following the completion of boarding and closure of the aircraft door, K1 reportedly moved to the front of the plane and refused to vacate the area, prompting the intervention of the airport’s Aviation Security (AVSEC) crime unit, which escorted him away for investigation.
Although the musician was later released, FAAN has condemned the conduct as a serious breach of airport security and an affront to operational discipline.
The Authority warned that it will not condone actions by any individual, regardless of status, that threaten the safety and integrity of aviation procedures.
The incident has sparked broader concerns within the aviation industry, as stakeholders stress the need for consistent enforcement of safety protocols to avoid reputational damage and maintain international standards.
FAAN has assured that the matter remains under investigation and that appropriate sanctions will be applied to any party found culpable.
