Governor Sanwolu Endorses Nigeria British Chamber of Commerce Golf Championship

After a pulsating and entertaining 18 hole action, the 2023 Nigerian British golf tournament ended with a bang as ADL Solutions dethroned last year’s winners Yoke Solutions to emerge winners yesterday at the Ikeja Golf Club, Lagos.

Speaking at a colourful and glamorous dinner party, organised for the golfers and sponsors at end of competition, the Special Guest of Honour Governor Babajide Sanwolu of Lagos, ably represented by the Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs Cecilia Babajide Dada, expressed joy at essence of the championship.

Mrs Dada who received a special award on behalf of the Governor explained that the competition tied into the Mr Sanwolu’s ‘T.H.E.M.E.S PLUS’ agenda, especially in the areas of entertainment and mental health.

The Governor’s representative also congratulated tournament organisers, The Nigerian British Chamber of Commerce, NBCC, for providing a platform that propagated relaxation, social interaction and networking.

Ironically, there was no friendly atmosphere on the course as the golfers sweated it out competitively to outdo each other under the scorching sun that also ensured a smooth flow of the ball.

At the end of proceedings, ADL emerged winners of the 9th edition of the amateur competition, tallying 141 Stable Ford points, Yoke took second spot with a 140 point mark while Consolidated Hallmark came third with a 138 point cumulation.

A player of ADL Abubakar Ayuba said power of focussing was key to their victory:

“The key is concentration. Then you will have to determine what you are aiming to do at the right time.”

Concentration was a bit challenging for some of the golfers who were used to the 18 hole golf course at Ikoyi, used previously by tournament organisers, as compared to the Ikeja Club who has 9 holes.

The vice president of the organising committee for the championship Mr Omotayo Babalakin while speaking on how the event unfolded said:

“I think it’s gone very well, and it’s been wonderful, we had very good sponsors.
And it’s a team event, based on the Stable Ford format in the golf terms.”

“People attended and by God’s Grace we had a very good weather, fantastic weather, which made the competition highly successful. The prize presentation to players and sponsors also went well” Babalakin enthused.

The awards to successful teams and individuals were a spectacle.

Linda Obieze with 36 Stable Ford points won the best lady golfer while Edelu Efekoha picked up the men’s version.

In the team awards, 1st placed ADL were presented with a trophy and reward of a two night stay at Marriott’s Hotel while 2nd placed Yoke received a trophy plus return tickets to Abuja.

Third placed Hallmark also received an offer of a two night stay at Golf View hotel alongside a trophy.

Looking ahead to next year’s edition, Mr Babalakin explained: “Next year we are going to introduce some other things to improve the look and feel of the championship.”
