Third Mainland Bridge To Undergo Three Months Comprehensive Maintenance By November 1 – FG

The Third Mainland Bridge will as from first of November, undergo a total resurfacing of the entire stretch of eleven point eight kilometers.

The bridge was closed last Saturday through Sunday midnight for emergency resurfacing of some bad portions.

 ” The proposed maintenance that will last three months is the first phase which is to secure the integrity as well as aesthetics of the upper deck of the bridge “. He said

Minister of Works, Mr. David Umahi announced this during an inspection of damaged portions of the Underdeck of the bridge, alongside that of Carter, Independence bridge and Shoreline Protection at Marina, as well Iganmu and Marine Beach Bridges.

Mr. Umahi explained, ” the maintenance of the aesthetics would include replacement of the railings, installation of solar – powered lights and CCTV cameras for optimal security of the bridge “.

” The three months phase one maintenance work would be without discomfort to motorists, as it will take place only between midnight and 4am and during weekends “. Umahi

According to him, ” there would be the engagement of more than one contractor due to the Emergency nature of the work which will end in Phase Four, that will entail the repairs of deflected slabs, bearings, piers and pile caps “.

The Minister of Works was accompanied by the Director Bridges, Mr. Omotayo Awosanya, Director Highways, Southwest, Mr. Adedamola Kuti, Controller Works, Lagos, Mrs. Olukorede Kesha and contractors.
