High Flying Nigeria Women Cricket Team Battle Hard in Loss to Uganda at Kwibuka Tournament

After a spirited performance, Nigeria’s senior women cricket squad Yellow Greens eventually surrendered their unbeaten run in the Kwibuka tournament today following a 5 wicket loss to the best ranked team, Uganda.

The Nigerian ladies batted first, scoring 100 runs for loss of 5 wickets in 20 overs which were not enough against Uganda the tournament’s best ranked side.

According to sports journalist Seun Ajidagba who is in Rwanda to cover the championship, Esther Sandy of Nigeria scored 52 runs off 49 balls while Lucky Charity contributed 27 runs off 37 balls.

Uganda attained the victory with 10 balls to spear, scoring 101 runs for loss of 5 wickets in 18.2 overs.

Top performer Immaculate Nakisuyi also scored 31 runs off 20 balls to help the Ugandans to victory.

Before today’s loss, Nigeria had made a flying start to their fourth campaign in the Kwibuka tournament with three wins in three games.

The Yellow Greens had dismissed their Rwandan opponents by six wickets in their opening game on Saturday, the ladies followed it up on Sunday with another six wickets win over Botswana before seeing off Kenya, the second-best team at the tournament by three wickets.

Following today’s game Uganda have overtaken Nigeria to place 1st in the standings with 3 wins from 3 games, Greens are second with 3 wins in 4 games while Rwanda are ranked 3rd with 2 wins from 4 games.

Up next for Nigeria is a clash with Kenya on Wednesday morning before taking on Rwanda in the afternoon.
