By Shaka Braimah

A two time member of the House of Representatives and Frontline Labour Party Governorship Aspirant in Edo State, Hon. Sergius Ogun, has called on the Federal Government to increase the output of Crude Oil for more foreign exchange to stabilize the Naira and improve the economy.

Mr Ogun, who spoke with Radio Nigeria in Benin city, also urged the government to strengthen security in rural communities to enable farmers return to farms to reduce the prices of food items

He noted that the country was currently not meeting her OPEC production quota, a development he described as unfortunate as it was the main source of foreign earning for the country.

Mr. Ogun also advised the government to improve security on the waterways in a bid to reduce oil theft which has affected the nation’s production capacity.

“We are borrowing money and flying all over the world attending seminars that would not add anything to our economy?. Our main source of foreign exchange is Crude Oil and we cannot even meet our OPEC quota, yet we borrow to import refined petroleum products. We will continually be in deficit until we have the right leadership,” he said.

The former Lawmaker who represented Esan North-East and Esan South-East in the House of Representatives,
lamented that big companies were leaving the country due to unfavourable government policies and a hostile environment”.

“Why can’t we have a government that can make life better for the rural dwellers? Most of the things we import can be produced in-country, giving the right incentives and infrastructure. “

On his governorship ambition in Edo state, Hon. Sergius Ogun was optimistic that the Labour Party would provide good leadership in the state, adding that he decided to join the race to liberate the rural communities in line with the party’s manifesto to improve rural communities and bring governance to the people.

“Edo people know the party and people they want in power. We understand the need of the common man

As a lawmaker, l did so much for my constituencies that they have encouraged me to go for governorship because they know l can reposition the state for greatness.

All through my 8 years in the green chamber, l was known as the lawmaker whose bills were all people- friendly, aimed at improving lives in rural communities.
