The Inspector General of Police, Mr Kayode Egbetokun, has assured retired police officers that their welfare is being addressed.
Mr Egbetokun who gave the assurance while addressing protesting retired police officers at the Force Headquarters in Abuja advised them to refrain from spreading wrong narratives saying the Force would never abandon it’s own.
He however told them that the exit of the force from the contributory pension scheme was not something that could be activated immediately.
Some retired police officers had yesterday protested at the National Assembly to demand their removal from the contributory pension scheme.
Reports say the demonstrators, mostly elderly, stood in the rain, holding placards and chanting anti-government songs.
