Ijeshatedo Residents Reject upgraded Band A Electricity Tariff

Residents of Ijeshatedo, in Surulere Constituency 2, have expressed grievances against Eko Distribution Company, EKEDC, over what they described as electricity tariff exploitation .

According to the residents, the power distribution company allegedly migrated residents to Band A tariff without any consultation, leaving many unable to cope with the high bills.

The community has, through it’s Community Development Association announced a resolve to survive without electricity supply rather than be burdened with unbearable costs.

Finding indicates that most of the residents are still on postpaid meters, which exposes them to estimated billing.

“For instance, a building with eight occupants was issued an outrageous eighth hundred thousand monthly bill, forcing each person to pay ₦100,000, an amount far above average salaries or rents in the area” a Community leader stated.

He added that “Even prepaid meter users are not spared, paying as high as ₦10,000 for only 44 units under Band A.

The online application process for prepaid meters is also described as unnecessarily complex, pushing residents towards agents who demand ₦50,000 in extra charges.

Residents are appealing to EKEDC marketers and managers to treat them as valued customers, not slaves, and to respect the dignity of the community.
