The Lagos State Government is set to domesticate the National Women Economic Empowerment (WEE) Policy to boost women’s participation in agriculture, entrepreneurship, and emerging industries.
Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Mrs. Cecilia Dada, disclosed this during a ministerial press briefing marking the second anniversary of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s second term in office, held in Alausa, Ikeja.
She revealed that nearly ₦2 billion has been spent to empower vulnerable residents. A total of 10,464 individuals have graduated from the state’s 20 vocational training centres, with 5,013 more expected to graduate in the coming months.
The Commissioner also reported over 2,000 gender-based violence cases in the past year, 195 of which involved male victims.
She added that the Domestic Violence Survivor Shelter under construction in Agidingbi is 70% complete, and will provide accommodation, psychosocial support, and legal aid for survivors.
Additionally, 16,000 young girls and rural women have benefited from the state’s free sanitary pad initiative, aimed at promoting menstrual hygiene.
Mrs. Dada reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to advancing inclusive social welfare and women-focused policies across Lagos State.
