Lagos State has intensified its healthcare reform agenda with a renewed push to strengthen laboratory systems and improve the quality of diagnostic services across the state.
The initiative, led by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, aligns with the administration’s T.H.E.M.E.S Agenda, focusing on accessible, reliable, and high-quality healthcare delivery.
The programme is driven by a strategic partnership between the Lagos State Ministry of Health and the Resilient and Sustainable Systems for Health (RSSH) grant, funded by the Global Fund.
It aims to close existing gaps in laboratory quality management while strengthening the overall health system for resilience and sustainability.
As part of the effort, eleven additional laboratories—across public and private sectors—have been enrolled in the Quality Management System (QMS) scale-up programme.
The goal is to achieve at least a 3-Star rating under the World Health Organization’s SLIPTA framework by December 2026, improving diagnostic accuracy, reliability, and turnaround time.
A five-day residential training held at Dover Hotel brought together laboratory professionals and programme focal persons from TB, HIV, and malaria units to enhance service integration.
Speaking at the event, RSSH Team Lead, Oluwatosin Ijimakinwa, commended the state’s leadership and urged participants to translate training into measurable improvements at facility level.
Officials including Akin Abayomi and other key stakeholders reaffirmed their support, emphasizing implementation of action plans and continuous technical guidance.
With this initiative, Lagos strengthens its position as a leader in healthcare innovation, highlighting the critical role of efficient laboratory systems in improving health outcomes and building public trust.
