The Lagos State Government has urged residents across the five divisions of the state to fully participate in the monthly environmental sanitation exercise scheduled for Saturday, twenty fifth of this month between half past six o’clock and half past eight o’clock in the morning.
The Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr Tokunbo Wahab, who made the call, urged residents to use the period to clean their surroundings and clear drains in front of their homes.
He assured that adequate compactor trucks had been deployed, with the Lagos Waste Management Authority, LAWMA, ready to evacuate refuse promptly.
Mr Wahab said top government officials, including the First Lady, Dr Claudiana Sanwo-Olu, and the Head of Service, Mr Olabode Agoro, would monitor compliance, while transport unions have pledged to suspend operations during the exercise.
He warned that environmental health officers would enforce compliance, with defaulters facing sanctions under the Environmental Management Law, urging Community Development Associations to mobilise residents to ensure the success of the exercise.
