Estate DevelopmentThe Lagos State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Oluyinka Olumide, has underscored the importance of layout plans in ensuring sustainable estate development across the state.
Speaking on a live programme, Dr. Olumide explained that layout plans are mandatory for all land developments covering 10,000 square metres and above.
He noted that such plans are essential for designating land use, providing utilities like power, water and waste disposal, designing drainage systems to prevent flooding, and creating road networks for effective connectivity.
He commended developers who have heeded the ministry’s call to regularise their projects, especially those among the 176 estates previously operating without layout approvals.
The Commissioner urged strict compliance with planning regulations, stressing that proper layouts guarantee orderly growth, sustainability, and government’s effective oversight of the built environment in Lagos.
