Lagos Judiciary must meet international standards, says Sanwo-Olu as 13 judges join the Bench

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has sworn-in thirteen newly appointed Judges of the State High Court.

At the ceremony at Lagos House Alausa, Ikeja, Governor Sanwo-Olu urged the Judges to reflect highest standard of impartiality, compassion, ethical standards and excellence that Lagos is known for.

The thirteen judges comprising seven males and six females were appointed following a rigorous process involving more than three hundred applicants.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu said he had lived by his commitment to the independence of the judiciary, ensuring that only the best hands were appointed to the state judiciary.

The governor called on the new judges to discharge their duties without fear or favour and that they should aim to compete globally.

The Chief Judge of Lagos, Justice Kazeem Alogba, commended Governor Sanwo-Olu for understanding the  independence of the judiciary and urged families not to put undue pressure on the judges to enable them to diligently discharge their duties.

The Lagos State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Lawal Pedro, SAN, noted that the Sanwo-Olu’s administration recognised the people’s desire for a justice system that works.

In a vote of assurance on behalf of the Judges, Justice Fimisola Azeez, appreciated the National Judicial Council for recommending them to the Lagos State Government as Judges, and assured that they would abide by the constitution, extant laws and their oaths of office.

Governor Sanwo-Olu has now appointed a total of thirty-seven judges in five years, with the latest addition of thirteen new judges to the bench.
