The Lagos State Government on Wednesday unveiled a comprehensive strategic document aimed at strengthening service delivery and enhancing operational efficiency in the education sector through the Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA).
The initiative is part of ongoing efforts to reposition the state’s education system for improved performance, accountability, and measurable outcomes.
Speaking at the launch in Ikeja, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Jamiu Ali-Balogun, described the development as a defining moment for the agency. He noted that the document goes beyond policy articulation, representing a consolidation of collective efforts toward building a more structured, efficient, and result-driven education system in Lagos State.
According to the Commissioner, the framework underscores the government’s commitment to reforms that will deliver tangible improvements in teaching, learning, and overall education standards.
In his remarks, the Director of OEQA, Sulaimon Ogunmuyiwa, explained that the strategic document provides a clear roadmap for the agency’s operations. He said it aligns workforce performance with institutional goals, strengthens internal processes, and establishes measurable targets that will guide performance evaluation.
Ogunmuyiwa added that the launch marks the beginning of a new phase for the agency—one that requires sustained commitment, collaboration, and consistency from all stakeholders. He urged directors and staff members to take full ownership of the document and ensure its effective implementation.
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Abisola Dokunmo-Adegbite, emphasised that the framework would deepen governance standards within the education sector.
She noted that it is designed to enhance institutional credibility, strengthen accountability and transparency, and support evidence-based decision-making.
Dokunmo-Adegbite further explained that the strategic direction would drive improvements in key areas such as infrastructure development, integration of digital learning tools, and capacity building for teachers.
Stakeholders at the event described the initiative as a timely intervention that will strengthen oversight and quality assurance, while ensuring that Lagos State continues to lead in education reform in Nigeria.
