Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly have urged the Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka, to prioritize the promotion of cultural heritage and expand tourism opportunities across the state.
The charge came after a motion moved by Chairman of the House Committee on Tourism, Arts and Culture, Hon. Bonu Solomon, during plenary.
In his remarks marking World Tourism Day, Solomon emphasized that showcasing Lagos’ rich cultural heritage would not only enhance global recognition but also significantly boost the state’s economy.
Supporting the motion, Hon. Gbolahan Yishawu, representing Eti-Osa, suggested the creation of an annual tourism calendar to attract both local and international visitors.
Also aligning with the motion, Hon. Omolara Olumegbon recalled that during “Detty December” in 2024, the Nigerian Immigration Service recorded over 500,000 arrivals into Nigeria, many drawn to Lagos’ festive atmosphere.
