The renewed charge of the Commandant General, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi, to all State Commandants to deploy technology – driven intelligence towards combatting criminalities across the country has begun to yield immediate positive results particularly in Lagos State Command.
The State Commandant, NSCDC, Lagos State Command, Mr Adedotun Keshinro while addressing newsmen today, Friday, in Badagry disclosed that the Command’s operatives in the axis during a strategically mounted surveillance which lasted for three weeks eventually smashed a baby factory in an overnight operation between Wednesday, 15th and Thursday, 16th April at Okuju, Ilado, Road 1, Zone 1 Area of Olorunda, Badagry.
He disclosed that the overnight operation, which was successfully carried out by the Command’s operatives in Badagry resulted into the immediate arrest of two suspects linked to the operation of the baby factory in the aforementioned house with their victims supposedly deceived through a Facebook account dedicated towards the recruitment of pregnant ladies willing to sell off their babies to interested buyers at post-delivery between five hundred thousand and one million Naira.
The operatives also rescued twenty eight victims out from the crime scene including; seventeen heavily pregnant women, one male adult, ten children including infants (names of suspects withheld ).
Preliminary investigation also revealed that one of the victims lost her pregnancy as a result of the unhealthy environmental condition as she was vulnerable to just like others.
Other items recovered at the crime scene also include the following exhibits; one pumping machine, one generator set, six standing fans, two gas cylinders (12kg and 6kg respectively), one burner, two large cooking pots, five android phones, four large mats and assorted food items.
The Lagos State Commandant condemned the dastardly, inhumane and barbaric act often perpetrated by some desperate members of the society in the guise of chasing money through any crooked means.
The suspects and victims have been immediately taken to the office of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, NAPTIP, for a proper hand over and further investigation into the crime as he assured the general public that the culprits will be duely brought to book.
