Obasa Highlights Grassroots Sports as Catalyst for Youth Discipline, Resilience

The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, has underscored the critical role of grassroots sports in shaping disciplined, resilient, and leadership-driven youths.

Obasa made this assertion while speaking as Special Guest of Honour at an inter-house sports competition held at the Agege Stadium.

The event drew notable attendance from lawmakers, including the Leader of the House, Noheem Adams, alongside Ege Adebisi and Stephen Ogundipe, among others.

Their presence added prestige and vibrancy to the sporting event, which featured competitive races, relays, and novelty activities.

In his address, Obasa emphasized the importance of sustained investment in grassroots initiatives as a strategic pathway to youth development.

“When schools effectively combine academics with athletics, they produce well-rounded individuals capable of contributing meaningfully to society.

This is why continued support for youth-focused initiatives is essential,” he said.

He also encouraged students to embrace participation over outcomes, noting that courage and effort are foundational to future success.

“Whether you come first, second, or last, hold your heads high.

You are already winners for having the courage to compete.

The future belongs to those bold enough to try,” he added.

The Speaker further commended the school’s management and staff for successfully organizing the event, highlighting the level of planning, resources, and commitment required.

“Today, we are all beneficiaries of your dedication and hard work. I sincerely appreciate your efforts,” he stated.

In her remarks, the Managing Director of the school, Mrs. B. T. Obasa, described the occasion as more than a sporting event, but a platform for nurturing leadership, discipline, and future potential.

“Our goal has always been to raise children who excel academically and demonstrate strong character.

Sports remains a vital tool in instilling discipline and teamwork, and we are encouraged by the recognition of our efforts,” she said.
