The Lagos State Police Command on Sunday morning launched a coordinated post-election security operation, codenamed Show of Force, as results from the July 12 local government elections continue to trickle in across the state.
The operation, led by the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olohundare Jimoh, covered strategic areas including Ikeja, Ifako, Iyana Oworo, Bariga, Somolu, Akoka, and concluded at the headquarters of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) in Yaba.
During the tour, the Commissioner re-briefed police supervisors, issuing fresh directives on how to manage any emerging threats or disruptions in the post-election phase. He also held a closed-door meeting with the leadership of LASIEC. While details of the meeting have not been disclosed, it forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen inter-agency coordination.
The security operation served as both a deterrent to potential unrest and a reassurance to residents of the Command’s readiness to maintain peace and order.
A correspondent who accompanied the Commissioner reported a robust display of the Command’s operational strength, with modern patrol vehicles, surveillance assets, and a large deployment of armed and conventional police officers on the streets.
The Lagos State Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the electoral process and ensuring public safety, urging residents to remain calm, law-abiding, and to report any suspicious activity through the appropriate emergency channels.
