The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has announced plans to intensify its efforts to address the growing problem of illicit drug trafficking and abuse among young people in Lagos State.
In a working visit to the Lagos State Commissioner of Youth and Sports Development, Mobolaji Ogunlende, the Tincan Island Port Strategic Commander of the NDLEA, Commander Mitchell Ofoyeju, emphasized the need for collaboration between the two agencies to promote a drug-free society.
According to Commander Ofoyeju, the youth are the future leaders of the country and must be protected from the scourge of drug abuse.
He noted that the NDLEA’s War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign initiative, led by Brig. General Mohamed Buba Marwa, is gaining momentum across the country.
The Lagos State Commissioner of Youth and Sports Development, Mobolaji Ogunlende, commended the NDLEA for its efforts in combating drug trafficking and abuse in the state.
He expressed his ministry’s willingness to partner with the NDLEA in promoting a drug-free society, particularly among young people.
The two agencies discussed possible areas of collaboration, including preparations for the 2025 International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, which is marked on June 26 every year.
The partnership aims to educate young people on the dangers of drug abuse and trafficking through sensitization programs, workshops, and seminars.
