The Petroleum Industry Christian Fellowship International (PICFI) on Thursday prayed for Nigeria’s economic revival and urged the Federal Government to revamp the oil sector.
The association’s National President, Mr Shola Idowu, made the call during a solemn assembly with key oil and gas leaders at the Oriental Hotel, Lagos.
Idowu expressed confidence that the oil sector would regain its past glory, stressing the need for more prayers for the implementation of sound policies.
He noted that many things were not going well in the nation, especially in the oil sector, which remains the economy’s backbone.
“Our industry has failed to meet expectations in spite of decades of existence,” he said.
He added that repeated government efforts had worsened the situation instead of providing solutions.
Idowu said the once-beneficial oil boom had turned into a burden and a plague on the people.
“But in this season, God is set to do a new thing. That is why this solemn assembly has been called.
“God seeks someone willing to stand in the gap and partner with Him to bring positive change to our industry.
“God needs an available vessel to ride upon to restore and redeem our nation.
“My prayer is that He finds such a person among us during this assembly,” he said.
Also, Rev. Shola Adebawo urged oil workers and stakeholders to let the Holy Spirit guide their business activities.
He called on everyone to unite and work toward improving the oil sector.
“This assembly is a spiritual call to acknowledge God in all we do for the nation’s progress,” he said.
PICFI Board of Trustees Chairman, Mr Collins Edebiri, told journalists the sector had survived largely due to persistent prayers.
He encouraged stakeholders to keep praying for both the oil industry and the nation.
The prayers were held for the oil sector’s lost glory to be restored.
There were also prayers for protection of national resources and mercy for past negligence in the oil and gas sector.
