NAMA, Unions near agreement on enhanced staff welfare

The Nigeria Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) says, it is in the final stages of implementing an improved condition of service for its workforce.

The agency’s Managing Director, Mr. Umar Farouk who disclosed this at the May Day ceremony organized by the Association of Nigeria Aviation Professionals (ANAP) at the Lagos airport, commended the staff for their dedication and affirmed that their commitment has been pivotal to NAMA’s current standing.

Mr. Farouk represented by the Director, Air Traffic services, Mr. John Tayo said, NAMA has been actively engaging with various workers’ unions within the aviation industry to reach a consensus on enhanced welfare packages for its employees.

He stressed the agency’s progress since the current administration’s inception, stating that outstanding payments related to a previous condition of service have been fulfilled.

Regarding the new condition of service and the national minimum wage, Mr. Farouk announced that a joint committee with the unions has been working diligently, with discussions now in the concluding phase before the commencement of payments.

He reiterated that these welfare enhancements align with the vision of the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo, who has prioritized the well-being of aviation workers.

The NAMA boss assured the jubilant workers that the new condition of service, which had faced delays, would be implemented imminently.

He also pointed to the introduction of various allowances, such as outfit allowances with arrears paid, as tangible improvements in staff welfare.

The MD NAMA noted a significant shift in staff development, stating that the agency has resumed local and international training programs for all staff this year, a practice that had been previously halted.

He emphasized the agency’s commitment to continuous engagement with the unions, stating a collaborative approach to ensure the well-being of all NAMA employees.
