Lagos State University of Education, ASUU Threatens Strike Over Poor Staff Welfare, Wage Irregularities

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Lagos State University of Education chapter, LASUED, has threatened to embark on strike over its members poor welfare package and wage irregularities.

Chairman of the Union in LASUED, Dr. Akolade Lapite, who made this known at a news conference in Ijanikin, decried that poor welfare packages and wage irregularities are negatively impacting teaching and learning in the University.

Dr. Lapite emphasized that the Union chapter is demanding payment of the approved twenty five to thirty five percent salary increments which, he said, are being enjoyed by other institutions.

Dr. Lapite who also revealed that members of the union are owed seventy two months arrears of salary increment, described the delay in the payment as unjust.

Another member of the union, Mr. Sunday Fowowe who stressed that the University lacked operational vehicles to facilitate teaching and learning, revealed that lecturers pay twenty two thousand naira, transporting themselves to and fro the University’s Epe campus to lecture students coupled with spending nine hours on the road, to the detriment of the students.

Other issues raised by the Union leaders include outstanding pension remittance, discrimination against National University Commission, approved post graduate programmes for staff, outstanding payments of honoraria, reduced salary bonuses and delay in payment of allowances for attached academic programmes, lopsided admission process, data processing allowances, poor networking facilities, poor welfare package, poor office infrastructure, official vehicles for HODs and Deans, poor power and water supply, delay in 2024 promotion, non-compliance with the university brief, relocation allowance as well as irregular and inequitable impress.
