Laguda Union Ramadan Lecture Highlights Unity, Peace

Fostering unity, morality, and peaceful coexistence took centre stage at the 11th annual Ramadan lecture organised by the Laguda Descendants Union in Surulere, Lagos State.

The lecture, themed “Ramadan as a Catalyst for National Unity and Moral Renewal,” emphasised that building a strong and independent nation requires reinforcing family bonds, promoting empathy and self-control, and prioritising humanity in all spheres of life.

Delivering the main lecture, Alhaji Yahaya Mustapha of the Quranic Central Mosque described Ramadan as a sacred period of inner reflection, conscience strengthening, and spiritual renewal.

He explained that the holy month extends beyond ritual observance to character development, encouraging self-restraint, ethical discipline, and personal growth.

According to him, Islam underscores justice and compassion as universal values that transcend religion, culture, and ethnicity.

He urged Nigerians to internalise the lessons of Ramadan in order to advance peace, harmony, and national cohesion.

In a goodwill message, Fuad Laguda, Member of the House of Representatives representing Surulere Constituency I, called on citizens to practise the teachings of Ramadan beyond the fasting period.

He stressed that moral renewal includes abstaining not only from food and drink but also from illegality, corruption, and social vices, while embracing unity and hope for national progress

The Olori Ebi of the Laguda Descendants Union, Alhaji Nasirudeen Laguda reiterated that the annual lecture aims to unite Laguda descendants across the globe.

Represented by Alhaji Bashir Laguda, he emphasised that family cohesion remains a foundational principle in Islam and should be deliberately strengthened.

The event concluded with prayers for deceased members of the Laguda Descendants Union, their families at home and in the diaspora, as well as for Lagos State and Nigeria at large.
