The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has condemned what it described as misleading reports by an online platform, Lagos Reporter, over the state of waste clearance in parts of Lagos.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, LAWMA said the report falsely portrayed visuals of locations that had already been cleared as evidence of inaction by the Authority’s waste evacuation teams.
According to LAWMA, the areas referenced in the publication were among sites already attended to as part of its ongoing waste clearance operations across the state.
The Authority warned that presenting such images without proper verification creates a false narrative, misleads members of the public, and undermines coordinated efforts aimed at sustaining environmental sanitation in Lagos.
“Misrepresentation of cleared locations not only distorts facts but also weakens public confidence in the collective responsibility required to keep the city clean,” LAWMA stated.
LAWMA urged residents to seek information from verified and official sources, while reaffirming its commitment to sustained waste evacuation, strict enforcement of environmental laws, and continuous public engagement.
The Authority also called on media organisations and content creators to uphold responsible reporting by adhering to verified facts and established journalistic standards.
The statement was signed by the Director of Public Affairs, Mr Mukaila Sanusi.
