The United States Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has launched a special focus assessment visit to the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos, Nigeria, from June 10 to 13, 2025.
A five-man team, led by Aron Tomchuck, will evaluate the airport’s compliance with international civil aviation security standards.
The assessment aims to review the implementation of Aviation Security (AVSEC) standards and recommended practices, as outlined in the Convention on International Civil Aviation, which Nigeria is a signatory to.
The team will assess various areas, including airport operations, training, security culture, and quality control, as well as specific security measures such as access control, aircraft security, and cargo security.
The TSA team will also review the status of previously identified deficiencies and verify the implementation of corrective measures outlined in a Corrective Action Plan.
They will according to the NCAA conduct an on-site inspection of US aircraft operators, Delta and United Airlines, to ensure compliance with TSA aviation security regulations.
The assessment visit is a collaborative effort with the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), led by Mr. Akoja Okplefu and Mrs. Hilary Ibiere.
The TSA team’s visit is a routine exercise aimed at ensuring the security of international air travel and promoting cooperation between the US and Nigerian aviation authorities.
