NAFDAC Denies Shutdown of Lagos Office, Confirms Operations Ongoing Amid Protest Reports

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has dismissed reports alleging that its Lagos office was shut down by protesters, describing the claims as false and misleading.

In a statement issued by the agency, NAFDAC clarified that while a protest took place outside its Lagos premises, the demonstration did not disrupt operations or affect staff activities.

“We categorically state that this report is false and misleading,” the statement read. “The protest, which occurred outside the NAFDAC premises, did not disrupt operations in any way. Our offices remain fully open, and all staff are carrying out their duties without interruption. Normal activities are ongoing, and there has been no shutdown of any kind.” it said

The agency was responding to media reports, particularly a publication alleging that protesters had shut down its Lagos office. NAFDAC emphasized that its operations remain uninterrupted and that its regulatory activities continue as scheduled.

NAFDAC also reiterated its commitment to safeguarding public health and enforcing all regulatory measures, including the ongoing ban on sachet alcohol.

The agency stressed that enforcement of the ban remains active and will not be compromised by external actions or misinformation.

The management further urged members of the public and media organizations to verify information before publication and disregard reports suggesting that the Lagos office had been closed.

NAFDAC maintains that it remains focused on its mandate to regulate and control the manufacture, importation, exportation, distribution, advertisement, sale, and use of food, drugs, cosmetics, medical devices, chemicals, and packaged water in Nigeria.
